"Kodiak" was the name chosen for 974 after the type of plane in which he was flown to Central California. Kodiak was shy to start, just like his buddy and the other bird flown in from Boise, #990. He would often get pushed off of food sources by the other condors. Eventually Kodiak outgrew the buddy system with #990, venturing far and wide beyond the San Simeon release slope! He has been seen soaring with #957 and #995, becoming a respected member of his community.
