California Condor Status
In 1982, only 22 California Condors remained in the world. With hope and determination, a recovery plan was set into motion. By 1987, the last wild condor was brought into captivity to join the remaining 26 birds in a bold effort to save the species through a captive breeding program. With wings spanning nearly 10-feet, the California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus) is one of the most inspiring birds on Earth - a true symbol of survival.
