A Space for Meaningful Outdoor Recreation and Education (SMORE), located at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur - creating equitable access for members of our community to enjoy and learn about the outdoors.
"Ventana Wildlife Society is leading this effort because we recognize the lack of low-cost, overnight accommodations that exists on the central coast and we have the drive and expertise to the bridge gap between low-income families from local communities to the magnificence of Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur by providing van transportation, bi-lingual outdoor education and over 30 years of hands-on experience." The project team consists of Zander Design and Denise Duffy & Associates plus others and managed by executive director, Kelly Sorenson, in close coordination with State Parks. A California State Coastal Conservancy Grant for $300,000 was awarded in support of the SMORE! See staff recommendation and letters of support. This grant will pay for landscape architectural drawings and engineering, environmental review and permitting, as well as a detailed construction plan.
