Affectionately nicknamed "Lenny" by biologists, #937 is big and blundering boy. He is the first chick raised by power couple #311 and #567, we were thrilled to see them succeed on their first try! #311 raised a chick with a former mate, but it was #567's first time being a dad. They chose to nest in a popular redwood tree that had been previously used by a different pair, and then ferociously defended their territory. This was quite a job, as the nest was close to several very popular roost trees and flight paths.
We still see #937 with his parents sometimes, but he is spending more and more time exploring the coast with his juvenile condor friends. With the continued guidance of his tenacious and protective parents and a strong social circle, we expect this chick to do well in the wild.
