McWay (567) was fostered by Whale Watcher (194) and Traveler (171) in the remote reaches of a Big Sur canyon. This bird was a very tough but cautious condor - he often seemed to prefer taking a backseat and watching the drama rather than getting involved.
He was paired with the older and more experienced Loner (311). Their nest was near his natal canyon, and they did a wonderful job raising and fledging their first chick, Leonard (937).
McWay (567) showed resilience for as long as he could after surviving the Dolan Fire in 2020. He truly was a Big Sur bird, and one we would frequently see along the coast and at our release site. He will be missed.
