Marily was born and raised in Oakland, California. Of Salvadorian/Mexican decent, she is a first generation college graduate, having received a B.S in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science at California State University, Monterey Bay. Marily has a passion for conservation, restoration, and research and has conducted research at UC Santa Cruz studying the ecology of urban agriculture; primarily focusing on insect identification. As a bilingual researcher she conducted surveys with local farmers on their agricultural practices. Marily volunteered restoring chaparral and oak forest habitats here in Monterey County, and researched the effects of oak moths on our local oak forest. She is also an artist at heart, having creating a number of art pieces for the city of Oakland. As a member of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc., inspiring young latinas to persue a higher education is near and dear to her as well. Through her work at Ventana Wildlife Society, Marily hopes to inspire kids to pursue a career in the field of science.
