Kyla Roessler
Nevada City, CA As an ecologist, Kyla has spent many years traveling the state looking for native flowers, birds and other animals. Many of these years were spent on the central coast, including many trips to Big Sur. She fell in love with the rugged coastline and the exciting glimpses of condors flying overhead. As an restoration ecologist, she also loved searching for the native flowers that thrived there. Kyla uses nature as her inspiration for a variety of art forms including paintings, carvings, and ceramics. She began practicing her illustrations by taking her watercolor kit out into the field when hiking or simply relaxing. Since then, she has turned many of her paintings into vinyl stickers, allowing people to place their favorite plants or animals on everyday objects. Kyla believes that this type of art has the ability to build awareness of the growing threats facing the natural world, and in turn support conservation efforts and stewardship.

(Above) Kyla’s love for birds grew when she began bird banding over 6 years ago. She feels incredibly lucky to be able to see these birds up close and to collect data to further our understanding of them.
