Xakkin meaning “to eat ravenously” was the name chosen by the local Rumsen Tribe for this hungry condor. Xakkin (994) was rightfully named after his enormous appetite and willingness to bully through a congregation of feeding condors that arrived before him. Make no mistake, Xakkin (994) always means business when food is around and he is more than ready to show his peers who’s boss. In his free time, he likes to preen his feathers more frequently than others because maintaining a positive public image is important for a successful leadership!
After his release into the wild at San Simeon in 2020, Xakkin (994) followed his fellow flock members and quickly learned the locations of reliable food sources. These days he splits his time equally between the San Simeon Sanctuary and Pinnacles National Park, ensuring his belly stays full.
