This seemingly shy bird took our observers by surprise when they noticed he was always the first condor to arrive at every feeding event! The name, Xuchen, which means “to get to be first”, was subsequently chosen for this bird by the local Rumsen Tribe. Because Xuchen (956) finishes filling his belly at a carcass well before other condors arrive, he avoids the competition and ensuing commotion that erupts during a typical condor feeding frenzy. Xuchen (956)'s apparent preference to avoid the chaos of crowds has definitely made him a master of stealth and efficiency!
Pronounced: HOO-chen (with initial “h” sound a little in the throat)
