Like his namesake, Icarus (706)'s first flight after being released was perhaps too ambitious. He worried biologists after flying far away from the release site and not returning for several weeks. Luckily, he found his way back eventually and assimilated well with the rest of the flock, spending plenty of time exploring the areas south of Pinnacles National Park. Unfortunately, this area is also associated with high levels of lead exposure, which is still the leading cause of condor mortality.
