Condor (703) stood out in his cohort because he was always trying to perch in places where biologists could not see him. Because of this he was named Hades, whose name means "the unseen one". His luxurious, dark ruff is reminiscent of his namesake's cloak of darkness - this secretive bird was a challenge to track after his release, as he enjoyed exploring areas of the San Simeon ridge where biologists could not easily observe him.
After his release Hades (703) spent some time getting acclimated with the area around the San Simeon release site before taking off to explore farther afield. He seemed to particularly enjoy hanging around Pinnacles National Park and the dry oak woodlands to the south, in the Bitterwater region.
