Wiley (1174) hatched in 2022 by biological parents Redwood Queen (190) and Phoenix (477), earned his nickname due to his elusive nature, managing to stay untagged for an extended period after fledging, skillfully avoiding capture. Our biologists persistently attempted to apprehend this bird at the Big Sur Sanctuary without success. Eventually, the Pinnacles National Park Condor Crew successfully captured him, providing the necessary health check, tracking equipment, and tags. The Condor Crew commends the tenacity and wariness displayed by Wiley (1174), impressed by his ability to evade capture for so long – qualities deemed beneficial for a wild bird. It is these admirable traits that led to the fitting nickname "Wiley" being bestowed upon him.
