Blue (1137) is nicknamed after the endangered subfamily of gossamer-winged butterflies referred to as "the blues". The selection of this name is aptly tied to Condor (1137)'s behavior, as observed by VWS interns. After Blue (1137)’s left the pen, much of his time was spent on the grassy slope at the San Simeon, CA, release site, aligning with the habitat preference of the butterfly subfamily "the blues", which are known to thrive in grassy environments. We fully expect that Blue (1137) will eventually expand his territory as he adjusts to living in the wild, and we are happy to give him all the time he needs to do so!
