Apollo (718) is an exceptionally social bird. He is constantly seeking out older birds and following them around. His charming, fun-loving personality combined with his impressive flight skills serve him well in the wild. Shortly after his release, for example, he made an unprecedented flight of 40 miles! It was for this reason that we named him after the Apollo 11 space mission that made an unprecedented flight to the moon.
Apollo (718) has continued to work his way up the condor social hierarchy and appears to have paired with his fellow cohort member Wilbur (696). Apollo (718) is the more dominant of the two, but is very affectionate with Wilbur (696), often feeding with him and sticking close to his side at the Big Sur Sanctuary. These two males have established their territory in a historical condor nesting habitat, and will likely nest together if they can find a female to complete their love triangle!
