Marily is a bilingual educator and biologist dedicated to providing meaningful outdoor experiences for the local community. She began working with Ventana Wildlife Society in 2023, bringing a strong background in science to our environmental education programs. Her undergraduate studies at California State University Monterey Bay earned her a degree in biology, with a focus on ecology and environmental science. She is particularly proud of her research of urban farms and invertebrates, including ladybugs and other insects, which included interviewed Latinx indigenous farmers about their cultural garden practices. Her research was published in “Agricultural management and landscape drivers of arthropods associated with Cucurbita pepo in urban agroecosystems.”
Her science background, as well as her research which included underrepresented voices and perspectives, made her a strong candidate for the VWS education team – first as an instructor and then as Youth and Outreach Coordinator. After taking a short break to work for Forest and Tree Outdoor School as their After-School Coordinator and Summer Camp Coordinator in Hayward, California, she came back to VWS to continue to build equitable nature experiences for youth and families in Monterey County. Marily was born in Oakland, California, to immigrant parents - her mother from El Salvador and her father from Mexico. In her free time she loves to travel and be outdoors!
