Wassak Uttis (1309) was hatched on April 25, 2024, by parents Ninja (729) and Condor (626) in a remote nest location in central California. Biologists tracked this chick by monitoring its parents movements and behavior. No visual confirmations of this chick were made until they showed up at the Big Sur Condor Sanctuary with its parents. Wassak Uttis means "Condor #2" in the Rumsen Ohlone language. This nickname was given to this wild fledged condor in honor of Wassak (968) who passed away from lead poisoning in 2023.
