Description: Please join Ventana Wildlife Society (VWS) for an Introduction to Bird Banding Workshop on Sept 24-28, Monday – Friday, 2007

Instructors include VWS staff biologists Karen Ritchie Shihadeh, Jessica Griffiths and Nellie Thorngate, each certified by North American Banding Council at the trainer level. Visit http://www.ventanaws.org/about_staff/ for more information about the instructors.

The action-packed week will consist of presentations, field mist-netting, banding, and processing of landbirds. Breakfasts and lunches will be provided. See schedule of events for details.

We have designed the workshop for graduate students, ecologists, wildlife biologists, conservationists, biological consultants, and federal and state employees. Participants will be trained in a synthesis of field methods pertaining to banding ethics, net handling and placement, bird extraction and handling, identification, bird topography, ageing, sexing, morphometric data, injury prevention and appropriate use. The course will focus on introducing techniques as used by MAPS programs and other population studies.
